The 'Just Like You' Project
As part of a Global Citizenship programme in all schools, developmentDirect
offers a range of services to schools in order to promote understanding
of global issues through school linking. It supports the government's
aim for each school to establish and sustain links with other schools
across the world.
developmentDirect offers the following:
- Introductory talk to staff about the project;
- Introductory talks to pupils, usually in classes, about the
Rights of the Child to explore the similarities and differences
found within pupils and their schools in other countries;
- Assistance in finding a suitable link school; setting up communication
links which should be reasonably sustainable and seeking agreement
with the link school about the topic, often health related, to
be studied;
- Where possible, helping to facilitate the exchange of pupils'
work;
- Contact details for others locally who could be included in
the project;
- Guideline lesson plans relating to the health issues to be studied
based in the Child-to-Child Readers available on CD-ROM, including
worksheets, photographs etc allowing flexibility of use within
educational establishments;
- Advice on where to apply for funds for visits;
- Advice when travelling to a linked country.
Costs for the above are agreed on a school-by-school basis.
