Our successes and future challenges
More and more schools see the benefits and are very interested in establishing partnerships. The 'Just Like You' Project can contribute towards a school attaining the Healthy School Award and International School Award. We are seeking to secure further funding to allow us to continue the school linking work and develop our other partnerships with grassroots NGOs in Africa. Education and health have a symbiotic relationship; Health can be improved through education; healthy children can go to school. We have linked schools in County Durham and are now in negotiations with Northumberland County Council to further promote the global dimension within schools through school linking. Below are some of our successful school links. Newburn Manor Primary School: We have helped Newburn Manor Primary School develop a link with Kambwili Primary School in Zambia. We did so by working collaboratively with The Rising Fountain Development Program based in Lundazi. The schools have started to exchange work about themselves as an introduction to each other. Ponteland Community Middle School: We have helped Ponteland Community Middle School develop a link with Wanga Primary School in Kenya. Work has been exchanged relating to Mathematics, Citizenship, School Councils and Geography. A visit by 3 teachers in July 2007 has helped strengthen the link. Wark First School: This small rural school in Northumberland is linked with Mae Juu Primary School in Tanzania. They have been studying Healthy Eating and Lifestyles. Exchanged project work has allowed pupils in both countries to understand more about each other. |
